67-Year Old Ex-Beekeeper from Colorado Discovers Real-World
“Fountain Of Youth” In Affordable Lakeside Community
… and now lives comfortably in year-round warm weather
on a modest $1,800 a month budget!
Here’s how YOU, too, can discover this affordable “Fountain
of Youth”… and upgrade your lifestyle almost
overnight.
Dear Reader,
You’re never too old to feel young again.
In fact, it’s entirely possible for you to feel five… ten… even twenty
years younger or more almost overnight… no
matter what your age right now.
Just ask International Living reader James
Tipton.
Ten years ago, James was a 57-year old beekeeper and part-time writer
living in Fruita, Colorado.
The high cost of living in Colorado, the frigid winters, and the
skyrocketing health care costs weren’t helping James stay “young at
heart.”
So he packed his bags, grabbed his passport, and headed south to the
country where he had enjoyed some of the most exciting and extraordinary
experiences of his life during his younger years…
He felt so good there that he made it his new home.
Now he lives in a pristine lakeside community that’s about as close to
a real-world “Fountain of Youth” as you’ll find anywhere in the world.

“Back in the
USA when I was 50, I felt like I was 65. Here… at age 67…I
feel like I’m 50… and getting younger!” - James Tipton, International
Living
Reader | |
This remarkable community offers…
- A near-perfect climate.(Average temperature: 75
degrees year-round – perfect for enjoying daily walks alongside
the lake to stay in shape)…
- Awe-inspiring views of the lake, sunsets, and surrounding
mountains.(This is probably one of the biggest reasons so many
writers and artists from all over the world live here)…
- An active expat community.(A large social
organization here boasts over 3,700 English-speaking members… and hosts
regular activities and get-togethers, including many charitable events
to benefit the local community)…
- An ideal place to start your own dream business.
(You’ll find many expat-owned art galleries, dance studios,
restaurants and B&Bs in the area. If you’ve got a “dream” business
idea, this could be the PERFECT destination to get it going)…
- Plentiful opportunities for fun and adventure.
(Fishing, boating, hiking… cooking, writing, painting, language and
photography classes… an English library with over 25,000 books, an
English-language theater… and festivals almost every weekend of the
year. You’ll never run out of fun things to do)…
What’s more, this place is SO affordable, many expats like James Tipton
and his family live comfortably here on only $1,800 a month!
This is one of the most value-packed destinations on earth for
budget-minded expats:
- For less than $6, you and two friends can take in a just-released
movie…
- For $2.70, enjoy a more-than-you-can-eat breakfast at an open-air
restaurant in the town plaza. Omelet, bacon, hash browns, beans, toast,
and coffee… all for $2.70!
- For $4.60, get a haircut and a shave…
- Doctors still make housecalls – and for just $12!
- For less than $300 a year (that’s less than $25 a month… or less
than $1 a day), you can get full-coverage health insurance …
- For $400 a month, you can rent a nice one-bedroom apartment…
And on top of ALL this, this place is SO close to the US and Canada,
you can even drive here!
It’s got just about everything an expat would ever want.
Where is this affordable utopia? Why do so many expats live there… and
in other expat havens in this country? And what’s the quickest, easiest,
and most affordable way to check it out right now?
Read on…
Where the living is youthful, laid-back, easy, and MORE
THAN AFFORDABLE
My name is Suzan Haskins. I’m International Living’s Latin America
Editorial Director.
And I’d like to help you explore one of my favorite places in the
world. A refuge where you’ll truly enjoy your surroundings and feel young
again… where you’ll enjoy “shorts and t-shirt” weather year round… a cost
of living that’s up to 50% less than in the USA or Canada… a much more
relaxed and carefree lifestyle than almost anywhere “north of the border”…
and much, much more.
I know this for a fact… because I live much the same type of life that
James and over ONE MILLION other Americans and Canadians do… in
the country that’s the most popular overseas destination for
American and Canadian expats.
Where is it? If you guessed Mexico, you guessed right!
(By the way, James Tipton and his family live in the remarkable
“Fountain of Youth” community of Lake Chapala. And in just a minute I’ll
explain a worry-free way to make Lake Chapala your home, too.)
But before I do that, there’s something you need to know. Lake Chapala
is just ONE of MANY fantastic expat havens in Mexico.
(Mexico has won International Living’s Annual Global
Retirement Index two out of the last three years!)
Why?
Mexico has just about everything you’d ever want in a great place to
live.
For instance:
- Just an hour’s drive from San Diego
you’ll find two beachside towns where home
prices are 40% to 50% less than similar homes just
across the border to the north. (And we’re sure you can’t even touch the
price of an ocean view home in San Diego for less than $750,000...
despite the recent real estate bubble burst.) In this part of Mexico,
water sports dominate the scene, including beachcombing, swimming,
surfing, fishing, and boating. There’s also horseback riding, dune
biking, bicycling, tennis, and, of course, golf. There are at least five
18-hole courses in the area. Or maybe you’re interested in watching
jai alai or dog racing, a bullfight, a rock concert or taking
in an amusement park. All of these can be found here.
- On the Sea of Cortez you’ll find a small
town that boasts one of the world’s most prolific
salt-water habitats with sport fishing tours available for avid anglers.
If you’re a fisherman, you’ll be in your element here. It’s close enough
to the U.S. border to make it a great weekend destination and just far
enough to feel like you have really gotten away from it all. Here,
thanks to high technology and low labor costs, quality homes are being
constructed for less than half the cost in the U.S.
- A secret island
paradise-Millions of tourists make it to Cancún every
year…but what few know is that a secret tranquil island
straight out of a children's fairytale book lies just a 30-minute boat
ride away. On this island the most popular form of transport is by
golf-cart. And you can buy a condominium here for as little as $150,000.
- The Pacific Coast's most romantic
destination-It’s a place where misty tropical mountains
wrap around a crescent moon-shaped bay.(Liz Taylor and Richard Burton
fell in love here). Today, it’s one of the world’s top tourist
destinations, with an international airport, pro-tournament golf
courses, designer shopping, world-class restaurants, and spectacular
sunset views over the seventh largest bay in the world. And you can buy
a house in an eco-friendly gated community just minutes from the beach
for just $95,000. And this community boasts a clubhouse, an enormous
pool, and a recreation area!
- "The Carmel of
Mexico"Where have all the flower children gone? Some
have ended up in a chic little bohemian oasis smack dab on the Tropic of
Cancer. In the past 20 years, artists, painters, and writers have come
here to escape the stress of their former lives. Perched on a hill
overlooking the glorious Pacific Ocean to the west and a lush green
valley to the North, this sleepy little desert town is a retiree’s
dream. Here, you can still find gorgeous oceanview homes for as little
as $270,000.
- One of the loveliest small cities in
Mexico-A fabled storybook colonial town set against the
spectacular Sierra Madre Mountains, and where the weather is spring-like
all year round, is one of the most popular places in Mexico for U.S.
expats. About 10,000 of them live full time in this city of 140,000. And
for good reason. With its rich culture, bustling energy, friendly
population, and delightful climate, it’s quite simply one of the
loveliest small cities in all of Mexico. Several major motion pictures
have been filmed here. It’s also a haven for writers and artists. And
just recently, you could buy a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment here
with a fireplace, off-street parking, lake views, access to a swimming
pool, an outdoor barbeque, and a garden area for only $80,000
- "One of the World's Top 5 Dive Spots"
(named by Jacques Cousteau) Off the coast of this
magical island the waters are so clear you can see 200 feet down on a
sunny day. And you can find properties like a two-bedroom, two-bathroom
condo right on the ocean for just $375,000.
- “One Of The 10 Best Places to
Retire,” Baja California Sur is the largely unexplored
thousand-mile tail that hangs down from the bottom of Southern
California. You can explore wild mountain trails on a dune buggy… hike
over endless desert canyons and hills…watch the whales swim by in
February and the dolphins in summer… sail across the Sea of Cortez… or
settle in the sophisticated seaside town that Money Magazine named "One
of the 10 Best Places to Retire.” And just recently in this picturesque
town, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom house with beach views on a one-third
acre lot was selling for only $199,000.
So… let’s say YOU are interested in finding a place with better
weather, a lower cost of living, a slower pace…but where there are plenty
of activities to keep you healthy and happy…a place like Mexico… You want
to learn more about the villages, towns, islands, and peninsulas (and more
like them)I’ve mentioned here. Or you want to earn an income in Mexico,
where it’s easy to start a business and opportunities abound.
I honestly can’t think of a better way to take that all-important first
step than by getting your hands on the most recent copy of
International Living’s Mexico: The Owner’s
Manual.
No other publication today gives you more COMPREHENSIVE, RELIABLE, and
UP-TO-DATE information about becoming an expat in Mexico as quickly and
easily as possible.
I’ll tell you more about Mexico: The Owner’s Manual in
just a moment. But first, here’s how some folks just like you are enjoying
life in Mexico RIGHT NOW…
TV Reporter from Mount Pleasant, Michigan discovers
amazingly affordable beach town near the Pacific Coast
In August of 2009, International Living reader Laura Michels,
a television news anchor/reporter, sent us a note. And if one thing’s for
sure, Laura LOVES the US dollar/Mexican peso exchange rate right now.
She said:
|
“I can stock up on groceries for $20 a week. Oranges are
less than 20 cents apiece, an entire package of tostadas is
mine for the equivalent of $1, and fresh avocados cost me only
pocket change.
My friends and I have a favorite taco place where we are
frequent customers. We feast on huge plates of mouthwatering
meat and tortillas for less than $3 each.
I can also get lunch at the restaurant right next to my
house for about $1.50. This homemade meal includes meat,
beans, rice, and freshly prepared tortillas.
I stay in a new house with tile floors and brand new
kitchen appliances. I have my own bedroom and my own bathroom.
I pay $175 a month for this, and the cost includes all
utilities along with wireless Internet. Some of my friends pay
even less than this. | |
And here’s what Glynna Prentice, an International Living
editor, has to say about her new life in the walled colonial city of
Campeche, Mexico… a UNESCO World-Heritage site.
|
“I love Mexico because it’s convenient, safe, and
first-world.
Mexico has RELIABLE high-speed internet, dependable mobile
phone coverage, cable and satellite TV with all the
English-speaking networks you’d expect, and even many of the
same brands and models for appliances and other housewares as
the U.S.
And unlike some other destinations, you can go back and
forth from Mexico easily without a lot of visa and residency
hassles.
But what I like best about Mexico is the ethnic diversity…
and the frequent kindness of the Mexican people. People are
very honest and polite.” | |
My husband Dan Prescher and I love Mexico, too. We live in the city of
Merida. We love Merida’s magnificent colonial architecture, sun-kissed
year-round weather, easy-going laid-back lifestyle, and a cost of living
that’s doubled our spending power. In Merida, we can…
- Enjoy all the adventure, warm weather and south-of-the-border charm
we want - without giving up a single modern amenity… high-speed
internet, all the U.S. television channels…we have it all.
- Walk to weekly street markets for fruits, vegetables and
handicrafts, or visit a Sam's Club, Costco, Home Depot or Office Max...
- Enjoy top-quality (and unbelievably low-cost) health care from
physicians and dentists who treat us like family members…
- Fly from just about anywhere in Mexico back to the U.S. in just a
couple of hours...
And here’s the best part of all this...
YOU can do this, too!
That’s right. You can REJUVENATE YOUR LIFE… enjoy better weather, a
lower cost of living and excellent healthcare at a fraction of the cost in
the U.S. by making Mexico your new part-time or full-time home.
And you can take that all-important first step by getting your hands on
a copy of Mexico: The Owner’s Manual.
Order Mexico: The Owner’s Manual

Now… if you’re wondering about all the bad press that’s Mexico’s been
getting lately… please let me address that right now.
What the mainstream media doesn’t tell you about Mexico
You’ve got to feel bad for Mexico these days. Over the past 12 months
or so the mainstream media in the U.S. and elsewhere has really thrashed
Mexico’s reputation.
Now don’t get me wrong… there ARE some bad places in Mexico, as there
are in every country. But International Living doesn’t recommend
or write about those places.
The places you’ll learn about in Mexico: The Owner’s
Manual, for instance, are safe, welcoming places. Places that
International Living editors visit regularly and where
International Living readers live happily, comfortably,
affordably, and safely.
I know this from experience, of course. My husband and I have lived in
Mexico for seven years now. We have never once felt threatened or fearful.
Our home has never been broken into. Our friend and fellow editor, Glynna
Prentice, is a single woman who feels completely comfortable driving
herself…alone…all over this country. (As do I and all of my friends.) None
of us are personally acquainted with anyone who has been the victim of any
crimes or problems the mainstream media would lead you to believe are
rampant in Mexico.
Mexico is safe, welcoming and its people are polite, kind and generous
to a fault. Enough said.
And on top of all Mexico has going for it…the world’s most beautiful
beaches, temperate and tranquil mountain villages, sophisticated cities,
trendy culture centers, and extraordinarily wonderful people…
Your dollar buys more in Mexico today than it has in
more than 15 years
There may never be a more affordable time to go to Mexico. Although
Mexico remains one of the world’s most exciting tourist destinations, 2009
was a rough year the world over for tourism. And as I mentioned, the
foreign mainstream press hasn’t help matters in Mexico.
But rest assured, the Mexican government AND local businesses are doing
EVERYTHING in their powers to lure tourists back. And if there’s any
silver lining to the global economic downturn, it’s that the value of the
Mexican peso has slipped slightly against the power of the U.S. Dollar.
(Although in recent weeks, the peso has strengthened.)
Point is: there hasn’t been a more affordable time to be in Mexico in
many years -- to vacation or to live.
Check out what the Lonely Planet has to say about Mexico’s amazing
affordability:
|
Lonely
Planet Best-value destinations for
2010 MEXICO
“Mexico has long been every North American’s favorite
budget break, with its inviting cocktail of emerald jungles,
turquoise seas, golden sands and happening resorts.
But in 2009, it suddenly became even cheaper, as the US
dollar grew to its most favorable rate against the Mexican
peso in 15 years.
Visitors from elsewhere will also find flights relatively
inexpensive, plus prices – both hotels and flights – have been
slashed to try to encourage travel in these troubled
times.”
- Lonely Planet website, November
20,
2009 | |

We’ve met fellow expats in all these places. And we’ve made all the
real estate contacts… the legal contacts… the tax contacts… the business
contacts.
